Five Clever Tips for Dealing With Email Marketing

  • Send personalized emails without using a name: These days, internet security is a huge concern for just about anybody that uses the internet. It has become such a problem that people are weary of emails that get too personal too fast. If you use the person's name too early on in your correspondences, they will be less likely to trust you, because they will think you're intending to risk their personal security.

  • Pay attention to the length of your subject lines: Nobody knows exactly why, but emails with subject lines that are between 60 and 70 characters are least likely to get opened or responded to. To be most effective, be sure that your subjects are either under 60 characters or over 70.

  • Send emails between the hours of 8pm and midnight: Between 8pm and midnight, emails have the highest open rates on weekdays. While it may be most convenient to send emails during work hours, if you want to get a response, you're better off waiting until the evening.

  • Be sure your emails are optimized for mobile viewing: Almost 50% of emails that are opened are done so on a mobile device. Because emails tend to look different on these devices, it is extremely important to be sure that they look good and are easy to read in this format.

  • Find ways to engage email recipients that aren't responsive: Usually, 60-65% of your email recipients don't engage in what you're sending. This can be changed though, if you find a way to reengage them.  Let them know what changes there have been since they joined your mailing list. Or, even better, send them a survey asking what they think of your emails and what their favorite part to read is. This will give you the information you need so that you can send them targeted emails.
