Using Photos, Videos and Hashtags for Instagram Marketing

Social media marketing is as popular as ever, with many people using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to promote their products and services. Instagram has a special place in this trifecta of social mediums because it is the most visual of them all.

As we know, people on the internet don't have a very long attention span. So a visual medium which has its impact all at once can be very effective. Here are some tips to enhance your Instagram marketing efforts:

Use a Great Picture

Instagram is strongly visual. The first thing that people are going to see is the picture you post and how many likes it has. Yes, you can write as much as you want about the picture in the comments, but those are not immediately visible.

So the best thing is to use a really striking photograph. There should be something about the photo that people will take with them, such as the big smile on the model's face, the beautiful colors of the sunset etc. The picture doesn't have to be technically perfect; it just has to be striking.

Use Hashtags

Hashtags are great for all forms of social media but particularly helpful on Instagram which allows you to put a maximum of 30 hashtags for any post. Try and come up with keywords that are relevant to your photo and use them as hashtags.

Try and make your hashtags varied. For example, if you have a photo of a plus size model on a beach, you can use hashtags such as #plussize, #beach, #bikini which are all about different things.

Use Video

Nowadays, video is very big on Instagram. This is because when the person is scrolling down their feed, the video starts playing right away. So they're forced to see at least a few seconds of it. And the fact is that the human eye is attracted by moving objects. So the person is likely to stop and see the video.

Make the video striking, just as you would with a photo. Also it's best to keep these videos short –about 15-30 seconds is enough.
